Express Entry Program for Canada Requirements & Checklist

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) approves skilled workers for Express Entry (EE) based on their skills and ability. The eligibility requirements for different economic immigration programs vary. Find the detailed requirements below:

    • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
    • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
    • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Requirements for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)

IRCC uses a 100-point Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) grid to assess the eligibility of the applicants. The current pass mark for the FSWP is 67 points. You get points for:

    • age,
    • education,
    • work experience
    • valid job offer,
    • English and/or French language skills, and
    • adaptability.

Skilled work experience has to be in one of the National Occupation Classification (NOC) job groups (0, A, or B) in your chosen primary occupation. You must have worked for at least one year continuously or a total of 1,560 hours (at 30 hours per week). Both part-time jobs and full-time jobs are acceptable. Student work experience may also be counted if it was paid and you do not have any gaps in employment.

You have to meet a minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in all the four abilities - reading, writing, listening and speaking. V2I experts can help you determine which language tests might be easiest and most suitable for you.

For immigration purposes, you need to present an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) done to prove that your education is equivalent to Canadian education. Paid V2I immigration consultation fee includes the ECA processing too.

You also have to show that you have a valid job offer or can work legally in Canada or have enough money in your bank account to settle comfortably in Canada. You must also be admissible to Canada under the immigration laws to be granted the PR visa.

If you want to settle in Quebec, you will have to fulfill additional requirements. Our V2I Canada experts can help you assess how many points you may score based on your EE profile, how you can increase your CRS score, and whether you meet all the Canadian immigration requirements or not. Requirements for the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

You need at least two years of full-time work experience (or an equivalent amount of part-time work experience) in your chosen trade within the 5 years to apply for the EE as an FSTP. The work experience has to be of NOC B skill type falling between specific major groups and minor groups.

There is no mandatory education requirement for immigrant tradesmen but they must meet the CLB 5 score requirement for speaking and listening sections, and CLB 4 score requirement for reading and writing sections of the language test. You also need to be admissible to Canada, have sufficient funds in your account or a valid job offer in hand, and fulfill the requirements of the province where you plan to live.

V2I visa experts can help you determine which NOC code, job title, skill type, and job level you should choose while applying for the Express Entry program to increase your chances of becoming a permanent resident of Canada. Call them now at ____________.

Requirements for Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

For the CEC pathway, you must have one year of skilled work experience in Canada within the last three years within the NOC 0, A, or B skill types.

    • NOC Skill Type 0 stands for managerial jobs.
    • NOC Skill Type A stands for professional jobs.
    • NOC Skill Type B stands for technical jobs or skilled trades.

Student work experience doesn't count in the CEC pathway. While there are no minimum education requirements specified, you do get extra points for the educational credentials. The minimum CLB level for NOC 0 or A jobs is CLB 7. For NOC B jobs, the minimum requirement is CLB 5.

The requirements for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) depend on the local market needs. You need to meet the eligibility requirements of the province or territory as well as the minimum criteria for the EE (which includes a police check and medical examination) to be eligible for it.
