The Australian Minister for Immigration has rolled out an initiative with which there will be certain key amendments to the Migration Act of 1958 as Migration Amendment Regulations of 2019. Migration scheme for subclass visa 187 to close applications from 16th November 2019

One of the biggest changes to be brought about is the introduction of the provisional visa subclass 494, there will be a discontinuation of the subclass visa 187 from 16th November 2019.

The skilled migration visa 489 closed to new applications from November 16th 2019

There has been a new visa type that has been introduced and this new visa is the Skilled Work Regional visa 491. With the introduction of this visa, the older visa provision of visa 489 has been discontinued from November 16th 2019. However, with this change now in place, there are a few points to be kept in mind which are as follows: 

• The date of 10th September will be the last date for the applicants to get an invite via the visa 489
• 15th November 2019 will be the last date for people to lodge an application for an invite via the visa type 489. Any other applications post this date will not be entertained. 

Besides these changes, there are a few more changes that have been made with respect to the key Changes applicable to Australia’s immigration point system and they are as follows: 

• 10 points will be allotted to all those people who have a skilled spouse.

• 15 additional points will be allotted to all those people who have been nominated by the state or territory government. This is also applicable when a candidate is nominated by a working family member residing in Australia. 

• There are certain people who get additional points based on the qualification and field of study that they belong to. Those candidates who have a qualification in Science, Technology. Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) will be awarded an additional 10 points. 

• All those candidates who apply for a PR and have no partner will be awarded a surplus of 10 points on the point calculator system. 

• In case of the fact that an applicant for a PR has a spouse who is well versant in English, the candidate will be awarded with an additional 5 points. 

Besides these changes being brought about in the overall immigration rules and regulations, there have been certain changes made with respect to the PR applications as well. This major change is as follows: 

• New PR visa subclass 191 has been introduced as of 16th November 2019. And with this new feature, this visa can not be enlisted for by those candidates who already have the visa 491 and the visa type 494 as well.
