Who is eligible for the ACT nomination for the Skilled Migration visas?
Skilled workers interested in living in Canberra and migrate to the Australian Capital Territory can apply for the following skilled migration visas:
- Skilled Regional Work (Provisional) Visa or Visa Subclass 491
- Skilled Nominated (Permanent) Visa or Visa Subclass 190
Applicants must make sure that they meet the ACT nomination eligibility requirements before they apply for it. They have to complete a score-based ‘Canberra Matrix’ where they get points for a genuine commitment to live in the ACT and contribute to its economy.
Candidates are selected only if their Matrix chooses an occupation on the latest ACT Critical Skills List. The 491 Matrix and the 190 Matrix are ranked separately for the ACT nomination. The highest-ranked candidates receive invitations.
- From April 1, 2021, an employer Statutory Declaration must be attached to the ACT nomination application to confirm that you have a confirmed job offer in Canberra.
- Do note that the Canberra Matrix for which an invitation is not issued automatically lapses after 6 months.

There's a monthly cap on occupations mentioned in the Australian Capital Territory Critical Skills List. Once the monthly cap is reached, invitations are not issued for it anymore.
